In this presentation, I will talk about the work I have been involved in for the past two years with the United Nations Statistical Division and the Expert Group on Migration Statistics on developing a revised conceptual framework on statistics on international migration and mobility. The conceptual framework was recently discussed and endorsed by the Statistical Commission, with written statements received from over 30 countries and six international agencies. This work recognises the increasing importance of data on migration, as well as the call for data to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Global Compact on Migration. Going forward, the revised conceptual framework and accompanying definitions will form the basis of the revision of the UN Recommendations on International Migration (dated 1998).
