School of Demography Masterclass presented by A/Prof Alice Richardson (Director, Statistical Consulting Unit, ANU)
At this Masterclass on Statistical Writing, participants will be introduced to the characteristics of the English language that cause the most problems for researchers writing a Methods section. We’ll explore strategies to overcome these problems, and look at examples of good practice. Participants are encourage to submit a short piece of statistical writing for discussion in a supportive masterclass atmosphere.
Alice Richardson has twenty years of experience in teaching undergraduate statistics at the University of Canberra. During that time she also collaborated on quantitative research projects in every Faculty of the University. In 2016 she took up a position as biostatistician at the National Centre for Epidemiology & Population Health at the ANU. From October 2019 Alice took up the role of Director of the Statistical Consulting Unit at ANU. She leads a group of statistical consultants dedicated to collaborating with researchers to ensure excellence in research design, analysis and communication.
Her own research interests are in linear models and robust statistics; statistical properties of data mining methods; applications of statistical methods to large data sets especially in population health and the biomedical sciences; and innovation in statistics education.
