Want to know what’s really happening in Australia’s mining towns? Hear two different perspectives in this seminar:
Heraclitus foreshadows Towns of the Mining Boom
Alan Wong, Australian Bureau of Statistics, will describe 10 fast changing towns and how they have been affected by the last mining boom. Employment, housing and usual residents will be covered.
Coal mining communities in Queensland – Evolution or Revolution
Ross Barker will use survey results to outline the rapidly growing incidence of fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) in Queensland’s coal mining regions over the past decade. FIFO workers are not usually included in the resident population despite spending half their time on site or nearby.
Refreshments will be served following the seminar.
