Master of Social Research students Yan (Lizzy) Duan and Fei Mao received grants of $500 from ADSRI to attend the Melbourne-Renda International Conference: Social Transformation and Policy in 21st Century China held at the University of Melbourne 12-13 August 2013.

Fei Mao's report of the conference

The topic of this conference was 'Social Transformation and Policy in 21st Century China'. The conference was held on the University of Melbourne campus on 12th and 13th August. Around 30 speakers presented their own research in this area. I presented my work on 'Changes in family and household during China's rapid economic development' at the conference and got some useful comments from others. In my opinion, this is a great opportunity for me to contact with other researchers and scholars who are working in similar research areas. It provided a chance for me to broaden my mind and get more ideas. For graduate students, participating in conferences is useful and necessary for future study.
