Abstract

This seminar will provide an overview of the new Australian Data Archive (ADA). The discussion will commence with an exploration of three areas of change in academic research: new technologies, new sources and forms of data, and expansion of research across disciplinary boundaries. The seminar will provide an overview of the new capabilities of the archive, which over the past three years has been engaged in a major restructuring and expansion of the archive to support these changes in the research environment. The core of the presentation will focus on a demonstration of these possibilities through the new ADA website, exploring the new data and tools being implemented throughout the Australian Data Archive, and an introduction to the six thematic sub-archives that form the new ADA - Indigenous; Qualitative; Historical; Longitudinal; International, and the existing Social Science collection.

Dr Steven McEachern is the Deputy Director of the Australian Data Archive.
