The changing shape of Australia’s overseas-born population
Friday 16 June 2017
New research from Tom Wilson and James Raymer finds dramatic changes to the composition of the overseas-born population in their analysis of the period 1981 to 2011. Immigration to Australia now hails from a much greater range of origins than the largely settlement migrants from the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe prior to 1981. The long-term effects of this migration and its diversity are apparent in the age compositions of the migrant populations. This research is supported by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project (DP150104405) grant entitled ‘the demographic consequences of migration from, to and within Australia.’ Find the full paper on open-access here.
