Help wanted to find Tasmanian families from the 19th century

http://www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.au:80/record=b2104845~S1Fertility in 19th century Tasmania

Researcher - Helen Moyle

I am a PhD candidate in the Australian Demographic and Social Research Institute (ADSRI) at the Australian National University. I am studying historical demography, specifically the fall in fertility among couples who married in Tasmania in the 2nd half of the 19th century.

I am looking at the birth histories of couples who married in Tasmania in four different years – 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1890. I have used Tasmanian digitised birth, marriage and death records to reconstruct their families, but because couples moved outside Tasmania, I have also used other sources, such as cemetery records, electoral roles, and births, deaths and marriage indexes of other Colonies/States.

What I am looking for

I have a number of couples married in 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1890 for whom I do not have sufficient information. The details that I have at present for these couples are shown on separate files for each of the marriage years. These files can be found below.

Would you  please contact me if you can help me with any information about any of the couples, such as:

  • Year of birth of husband and/or wife
  • Date and place of death of husband and/or wife
  • Dates of birth of children, where day and month are missing
  • Any additional births to the family that are not included
  • Any inaccuracies in the family reconstruction.

I would also like to hear from you if you can confirm the accuracy of the information that I have set out in the files.

I would be most grateful for any help that you can give me.
