The Virtual Observatory for the Study of Online Networks (VOSON) Lab is based in the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University in Canberra, and for the past 10 years has been advancing the social science of the internet via an internationally-recognised program of research, teaching and tool development.

The person we are seeking for this 2-year full-time position will be a social scientist (PhD in eg economics, communications, sociology, political science, information science) aiming for a career in the emerging fields of big data research and computational social science. The person will have strong quantitative skills and either experience with or demonstrated aptitude to learn the R statistical/programming language in a Linux computing environment.

This position will be based in the VOSON Lab and will be expected to contribute to developing social science big data research at the ANU and internationally.
The position will be required to work on an Australian Research Council-funded project titled 'Understanding online attention and user-generated content creation: An information consumption and production perspective'.
