Determinants of health and well-being among older persons in the Philippines

This research aims to examine the factors associated with health and well-being of older Filipinos at the micro and macro-level. At the micro-level, it investigates the role of children’s education on the health status of their elderly parents. It also examines how living arrangements and intergenerational support from children influence the well-being of older adults in the Philippines.  At the macro-level, regional differences in disability-free life expectancy (DFLE) of older Filipinos are examined, and how socioeconomic factors are associated with these disparities. Data are drawn from the 2007 Philippine Study on Ageing (PSOA) and the 2010 Philippine Census of Population and Housing (CPH).
