From definitions to projections: a journey through the activities of Eurostat in demographic and migration statistics

Presented as part of the ANU School of Demography Seminar Series

The presentation is addressed to those interested in international population statistics and namely to users of Eurostat demographic and migration data, with the goal of explaining the work setting of Eurostat in this domain and raising awareness of the challenges that are faced producing statistical information on population, as well as informing about the latest developments in this dynamic field.

Giampaolo Lanzieri is Senior Expert at Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union, where he is leading the team responsible for demographic and migration statistics as well as population projections. He holds a Master in Statistics and Economics, a PhD in Statistics and a Specialization in Social Research. Dr Lanzieri has contributed to several UN Task Forces in various international recommendations related to statistics, such as on population censuses, vital events, population projections, and circular migration.
