Coursework

Demography is about how populations change across space and time. Demographers study not only the size and compositions of populations, but also what factors lead to a changing population. Many countries face pressing population problems, and demographers seek to understand the dynamics behind these issues, and help solve them.

The ANU School of Demography offers coursework study options to undergraduate and postgraduate students, all of whom have access to our research experts.

Undergraduate students may choose demography as part of a Minor in Demography or as essential elective coursework in a wide variety of disciplines, including environmental science, international relations, geography, public policy, economics, health, and indigenous studies.

Coursework in demography is an essential component of postgraduate programs including, but not limited to, the Master of Demography, Master of Public Health, and Master of Globalisation.

Students with a particular interest in policy studies may consider coursework under the Population Change Specialisation in the Master of Public Policy or the Demographic Analysis theme in the Master of Social Research.
